August 2014 Book of the Month & Giveaway

September 26, 2014 06:52 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

From my August reading, I've chosen to highlight a historical romance that embodies a fairy tale quality. It's loaded with angst, drama, conflict, high seas adventure, and exotic locales. It's also a moving tale of redemption, enemies turned to lovers, and the power of love to overcome the pain of the past. Oftentimes an author's early work shows their greenness as a writer, but IMHO, this best-selling romance novelist exhibited her impressive talent right from the start. This book was her debut novel, and what a great beginning it was. It's the story of a lost prince turned pirate, finally returning to his island homeland to take up the throne that is his birthright. But the path to that victory is a rocky one laden with potential pitfalls and heartache. He is a deeply tortured soul, but luckily for him, a woman who adored him when he was nothing more than a legend in her mind stands by his side, against all odds, offering the support, encouragement, and love he needs to accomplish his goal. Their love story is an epic and emotional journey filled with adventure, danger, and passion, and it was an absolute joy to read. That's why I'm naming Gaelen Foley's The Pirate Prince as my August Book of the Month. If you're a romance lover and haven't read this book yet, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Keep reading to learn how you can win a copy for your own library.

Movie Monday -- Equilibrium

September 22, 2014 05:58 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

It's rare for me to randomly run across a movie I've never heard of and even rarer to have it turn out to be worth my time, but that's exactly what happened to me over the weekend. In need of something to watch for our Friday movie night, I started searching Netflix for movies from my 'Want-to-Watch List.' After spending about half an hour and having no luck finding any of them on instant streaming, I resorted to browsing the streaming titles. Finally, I happened across a movie called Equilibrium. The premise of a dystopian world sounded promising, it had a decent cast of fairly well-known stars (Christian Bale, Sean Bean, Taye Diggs), and Netflix guesstimated I'd rate it four stars. Bingo! We had our movie, but just how good would it be?

July 2014 Book of the Month & Giveaway

September 1, 2014 06:00 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

It's time for my second Book of the Month pick. In case you missed the first one, I'll reiterate just a bit what I'm doing. In honor of my lifetime love of reading and to give credit to my fellow authors who in my estimation are very talented at their craft, each month I'll be choosing the best book I read the previous month and highlighting it with a feature, a review, and a giveaway. I'm still a little behind on getting my reviews posted, so this is my pick for the month of July.

Hump Day Hunks -- Weston Boucher

August 27, 2014 05:19 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

I had the privilege of meeting today's Hump Day Hunk at the Romance Novel Convention in July, where he was crowned Mr. Casanova 2014. Being a shy introvert, I tend to be a bit awkward and tongue-tied around incredibly attractive men and usually get overlooked by them in return, so one of my favorite memories of this year's RNCon was this guy taking the time to chat with me at the Book Fair. With it being my first author signing, I was a little nervous, so I was surprised to feel completely at ease talking with him. He struck me as a kind, generous, warm-hearted, and truly genuine person. He was a really great sport and totally into his role as an RNCasanova, providing some blush-worthy answers to the naughty questions being asked during the Dating Game portion of the Mr. Casanova Contest.;-) He has multiple creative talents outside of modeling too. He's equally at home behind the camera as in front of it, and is co-owner of a successful photography business with his wife. In addition to that, he's a gifted singer and songwriter, primarily producing original music for use in television, movies, video games, and commercials. Throughout my interactions with him, I've been thoroughly impressed with his creativity, candidness, and sincerity and hope my readers will feel the same, so without further ado, let me introduce this week's Hump Day Hunk, Weston Bouchér. Weston generously agreed to an interview with me, so I hope you enjoy!

Interview with Debra Anastasia & Giveaway

August 25, 2014 04:17 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

If you've been following my blog, then you'll know that I chose Debra Anastasia's Poughkeepsie as my first Book of the Month pick a couple of weeks ago. (If you haven't, you can still read my Book of the Month write-up on it and my review of the book.) Well, word of this got back to Debra via social media. As it turns out, she's a generous person who is very supportive of both her fans and her fellow indie authors. After exchanging a few pleasantries online, I was very excited when she agreed to an interview for my blog. Debra also offered to do a giveaway for an eBook set of Poughkeepsie and Return to Poughkeepsie, the first two books in her Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. I hope you enjoy my Q & A with this very talented author. Scroll to the bottom to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway.

Movie Monday -- Remembering Robin Williams

August 18, 2014 05:42 PM Posted by juliannadouglas

This past week, I joined millions of other people around the globe in mourning the loss of legendary comedian Robin Williams. I often hear of the passing of celebrities, including some whose work I've enjoyed, but it's rare that one touches me in such a way that I truly grieve for them. I can honestly and without embarrassment say that I've shed more than a few tears over Robin's death. He had such incredible range as an actor. He could make me laugh like no one else could. He could touch my heart on a deep emotional level. And sometimes, that all happened in the same movie. Here are a few of my personal favorites:
