Romance Novel Convention -- Day 1
July 16, 2014 12:03 PM Posted by juliannadouglas
Well, I'm finally home from a whirlwind seven day trip to Las Vegas to attend the Romance Novel Convention. I know I had said I'd try to post while I was there, but unfortunately, I didn't have much free time and when I did, my introverted self just needed to chill. So, now that I'm back I'm going to write a series of posts about my adventures there.:-)
Hubs and I arrived in Vegas one day early on Tuesday, July 8. I spent most of that evening in nervous anticipation of the event to come and didn't sleep well that night. Yeah, I know, I'm weird, but there you go.;-)

Romance Novel Convention Preview
July 7, 2014 03:10 PM Posted by juliannadouglas
I'm insanely busy right now doing last minute packing and making other preparations for my trip. Hubs and I leave tomorrow morning to drive to Las Vegas where we'll be attending Jimmy Thomas's Romance Novel Convention. I attended the inaugural RNCon last year and had a really good time, so I immediately made it a goal to return this year. It already looks like it's shaping up to be a lot of fun.

Today's Friday Funny combines two of my favorite things, cats and hot guys. Umm... is it a cat shifter? Or an unearthy mutant? You decide...

Hump Day Hunks - Hugh Jackman
June 25, 2014 03:10 PM Posted by juliannadouglas
We romance authors often rely on the gorgeous men in the world to not only grace our novel covers, but sometimes also as inspiration for writing our hunky romance heroes. In this column, I'll be celebrating male beauty in all its many and varied forms. My first pick for the award of Hump Day Hunk is a not to surprising choice and one that sure to be a crowd-pleaser. He's loved by millions of women (and men -- come on, admit it guys, there's some bromance going on too ;-)) all over the world for his rugged good looks, stunning physique, and amazing acting ability. He's also reportedly a real romantic and adoring husband (I totally envy his wife in more ways than one), not to mention a devoted father to their two children. Swoon! What more could a girl ask for? So without further ado, here for your viewing pleasure is this week's Hump Day Hunk. Enjoy!

TV Tuesday -- The Science of Sex Appeal (How It Relates to Writing Romance)
June 24, 2014 05:39 PM Posted by juliannadouglas
There were several shows I watched this week that tempted me to write about them, but none more so than the Discovery channel documentary that I viewed on Netflix called, The Science of Sex Appeal. As I mention in my bio, another of my hobbies is feeding my insatiable thirst for knowledge, and this particular show did that while also appealing to the romantic in me. I was quite fascinated by the information presented in this show, but I'll start by prefacing that it focuses only on heterosexual relationships and the biological responses that drive us to seek mates. That said, I still found it very intriguing how our bodies and our brains are constantly making calculations about the opposite sex of which we are mostly unaware.

Friday Funnies

Here's a fun picture to put a smile on your face to start the weekend. Since I talked about my love for Firefly on Tuesday, I couldn't resist making this my first Friday Funny. Gotta love Kaylee Frye, and her adoration of strawberries. This shot comes from "Shindig" my all-time favorite Firefly episode. Apologies to my non-Browncoat readers if you don't get it, but like I said before, what are you waiting for? Give it a try.

I freely admit that I'm totally addicted to books, especially bargain books. I'm a very frugal shopper who's on a budget, so all the free and $0.99 eBooks are really appealing to me. I'm always on the prowl for a deal. Knowing that there are many other readers like me, I've decided to share some of my interesting-looking, bargain book finds from the past week to help kick-start your weekend reading. Happy Reading! TV Tuesday -- Firefly
June 17, 2014 03:06 PM Posted by juliannadouglas
Another wonderful storytelling medium and one of my other big hobbies is television. Once I find shows and characters I like, I just can't get enough of them. I probably watch way too many TV shows, which is why, much like with movies, I'm rarely up to date on any of them. With the popularity and availability of TV on DVD and Netflix, I also enjoy rewatching old favorites and discovering new-to-me shows as well. My apologies in advance for potentially discussing a particular show or episode my readers may have watched a long time ago, but if I tried to stay up to date on all the shows I love, I'd never have time for writing. Not to mention, perhaps I can stir up some fond memories for you or help you discover a show you've never seen before (in the event that might be the case, I'll try not to be too spoilerish).
